The egg pool carries weight here. Ancient Power and Counter aren't available any other way for Meganium, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Solar Beam and Giga Drain for solid options.

Meganium Guide

  • For Crystal, we rate Meganium C-Tier: a niche pick in Crystal's meta. At 525 BST, it fits the support role. Synthesis with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Crystal, Meganium's biggest threats include Charizard (Fire), Cloyster (Ice), and Gengar (Poison), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Base 80 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Meganium is a special attacker with base 83 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a support.

  • In Crystal, the best way to handle Meganium: Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Fire, Ice, and Poison-type attackers hit hardest.

  • In Crystal, Meganium plays as a support. Speed is middling, so pick your spots carefully.

Game Availability

Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Meganium spans 9 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in most mainline games.
