Meganium doesn't stand out in any single area, but it gets the job done for in-game teams. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind. Been around since Gen 2. Known as the Herb Pokemon. Flexible enough to run physical or special sets.
An unusually even spread gives Meganium flexibility. Defense barely edges ahead. But HP isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 Defense and Sp. Def EVs.
Anyone who stands beside it becomes refreshed, just as if they were relaxing in a sunny forest.
Meganium Weakness
FragileType-wise, Meganium takes extra damage from Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Meganium's overall bulk (80/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
End of the line. Meganium caps a three-stage chain that started at Chikorita. Breeding produces the base form, and eggs are average hatch time. HP grew the most through evolution (+35 over Chikorita), and Meganium peaks at 525 total stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Meganium to get Chikorita eggs easily using 23 partners from the Plant and Monster egg groups. Notable egg moves include Ancient Power, Counter, Flail and 3 more.
Nothing fancy here. Meganium builds around Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, a nature nature for the right stat lean, and flexible EVs EVs. An ability does its job quietly.

The egg pool carries weight here. Ancient Power and Counter aren't available any other way for Meganium, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Solar Beam and Giga Drain for solid options.

No wild encounters for Meganium. The 3-stage chain runs through Chikorita, which you can catch but it's a rare spawn from the locations below. Evolve at level 32 once you've got the levels.
We rate Meganium C-Tier — a situational pick that fills a niche. At 525 BST, it fits the support role. Base 100 Defense stands out.
Base 80 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Meganium is a physical attacker with base 82 Attack. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a support.
Meganium appears in 17 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.
Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Meganium spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in most mainline games.
