Stats & Training
An unusually even spread gives Meganium flexibility. Defense barely edges ahead. But HP isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 Defense and Sp. Def EVs.
Its breath has the fantastic ability to revive dead plants and flowers.
Meganium Weakness
Type-wise, Meganium takes extra damage from Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Meganium's overall bulk (80/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
In Platinum, Infernape's Close Combat hits Meganium for 48-57%. Dragonite's Outrage hits Meganium for 82-97%. Gengar deals 42-50% with Explosion.

Platinum Meganium Best Moveset
Nothing fancy here. Meganium builds around Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, Calm nature for the right stat lean, and max HP and Sp. Def EVs. Overgrow does its job quietly.

Moves
The egg pool carries weight here. Ancient Power and Aromatherapy aren't available any other way for Meganium, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Frenzy Plant and Leaf Storm for solid options.

Meganium Guide
For Platinum, we rate Meganium C-Tier: a niche pick in Platinum's meta. At 525 BST, it fits the support role. Leech Seed with Leftovers is the standard set.
Overgrow is the go-to ability for Meganium. It strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Leaf Guard can work in specific setups.
Base 80 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Meganium is a physical attacker with base 82 Attack. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a support.
In Platinum, the best way to handle Meganium: Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Fire, Ice, and Poison-type attackers hit hardest.
Game Availability
Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Meganium spans 9 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in most mainline games.
