Meganium Best Moveset
100/100 balanced defenses at 83 Sp. Atk and 80 Speed on Grass with AbilityOvergrow boosting Grass damage at low HP. Held ItemLeftovers with NatureTimid runs support through status moves and Grass TermStab. The moveset absorbs neutral hits on both sides. Tera Grass or Tera Poison improves the defensive matchup, but the offensive ceiling stays low.
Pure Grass with solid defensive stats in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Leech Seed, Light Screen, and Reflect made Meganium a competent support option. Better than most give it credit for.

Aromatherapy healed team status in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Unique support role but Meganium lacked any offensive presence to threaten opponents.

Outclassed by almost every Grass-type in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Roserade, Venusaur, and Tangrowth did everything Meganium wanted to do but better.
Wall Moveset
- Leech Seed
- Reflect
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire
Recommended Teammates
The worst of the three Johto starters competitively in Gen V (Black & White). Pure Grass with no secondary typing offered nothing unique.
Physical Attacker Moveset
- Leech Seed
- Giga Drain
- Protect

Recommended Teammates
Five gens of steady decline in Gen VI (X & Y). Meganium's support set was too passive for a format that punished anything not actively threatening.

Same story in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Screens and Aromatherapy weren't enough when the Pokemon using them couldn't do anything else.
Utility Moveset
- Leech Seed
- Dragon Tail
- Giga Drain
- Leaf Storm

Returned in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet) but nothing had changed. Still a pure Grass-type with no offensive identity and no reason to pick it over alternatives.

| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground |

Base Stats
An unusually even spread gives Meganium flexibility. Defense barely edges ahead. But HP isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 Defense and Sp. Def EVs.
Its breath has the fantastic ability to revive dead plants and flowers.
Meganium Guide
We rate Meganium C-Tier: a situational pick that fills a niche. At 525 BST, it fits the support role. Base 100 Defense stands out.
Overgrow is the go-to ability for Meganium. It strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Leaf Guard can work in specific setups.
Base 80 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Meganium is a mixed attacker with base 82 Attack and 83 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a support.
The core moveset is Leech Seed, Giga Drain, Knock Off, and Encore. Leech Seed leads at 0% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.
Game Availability
Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Meganium spans 9 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in most mainline games.
