Feraligatr Best Moveset
AbilitySheer Force boosts all moves with secondary effects by 30% and removes the effect, which also cancels Held ItemLife Orb recoil on those moves. Free Life Orb damage on everything. NatureAdamant at 105 Attack behind Water TermStab and coverage moves hits like 136 Attack without paying HP. The moveset punches above its stat line through raw mechanical advantage.
105 Attack was the highest of the Johto starters in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Earthquake and Rock Slide provided physical coverage, even though Water moves were still Special.

Same issue in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire) — no physical Water STAB yet. Swords Dance plus coverage moves worked, but Feraligatr had to rely on special Surf for Water damage.

The physical/special split gave Feraligatr Waterfall in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Swords Dance plus physical Waterfall plus Ice Punch was the offensive set it always deserved.

- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Swords Dance
- Aqua Jet

Sheer Force boosted Waterfall, Ice Punch, and Crunch by 30% with no drawback in Gen V (Black & White). But 78 Speed was painfully slow without priority.

Aqua Jet provided priority that fixed the Speed problem in Gen VI (X & Y). Swords Dance, boost up, then Aqua Jet anything faster. Sheer Force made even priority hit hard.

- Ice Punch
- Dragon Dance

Five gens of consistent relevance in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Sheer Force coverage spam worked because Swords Dance plus 105 Attack made every hit count.

- Ice Punch
- Dragon Dance
- Liquidation
- Earthquake

Returned in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet) but 78 Speed was an even bigger liability. Aqua Jet kept it functional, but faster Water-types were pulling ahead.

Feraligatr Weakness
Feraligatr is weak to Electric and Grass. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. With 85 HP and balanced defenses, Feraligatr can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

Base Stats
Attack and Defense carry most of Feraligatr's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 3 Attack and Defense EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It usually moves slowly, but it goes at blinding speed when it attacks and bites prey.
Feraligatr Guide
Sheer Force changes the entire equation for Feraligatr. The 530 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as an attacker.
Sheer Force is what you want on Feraligatr. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Torrent) work on paper but Sheer Force is what makes Feraligatr worth using.
Base 78 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Feraligatr is a physical attacker with base 105 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as an attacker.
The core moveset is Icepunch, Liquidation, Dragon Dance, and Crunch. Icepunch leads at 0% usage. Liquidation provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Feraligatr spans 9 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in most mainline games.
