Is Oddish Good in Red & Blue Playthrough?
Red version only. Oddish fills the Grass-type slot if you didn't pick Bulbasaur. Available fairly early, but it's slow and fragile until it evolves. The payoff is Vileplume, which is a solid Grass-type but doesn't match Venusaur.
Oddish resists most of Brock's coverage and hits back hard.
Oddish has the type edge here and should clean up Misty's team.
Gloom trades roughly evenly with Lt. Surge's team.
Erika's typing presses Gloom's defenses.
Koga's typing presses Vileplume's defenses.
Vileplume trades roughly evenly with Sabrina's team.
Vileplume trades roughly evenly with Blaine's team.
Vileplume has the type edge here and should clean up Giovanni's team.
Vileplume has the type edge here and should clean up Lorelei's team.
Vileplume has the type edge here and should clean up Bruno's team.
Agatha's Pokemon outpace and outclass Vileplume here.
Vileplume trades roughly evenly with Lance's team.
Vileplume trades roughly evenly with Blue's team.

How to Get Oddish in Red & Blue
Nine Red-side routes grow Oddish, common in all of them. It is a Red exclusive, so wherever Red trainers brush through tall grass and find one, Blue trainers turn up Bellsprout instead.

Oddish Weakness
Oddish's Grass/Poison typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic. Bug hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Bug |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Flying, Psychic |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Fighting |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
