Is Tauros Good in Red & Blue Playthrough?
One of the best Pokemon in Red and Blue, period. Tauros is fast, hits hard, and takes physical hits well. MoveBody Slam paralyzes roughly one in three targets, MoveHyper Beam skips recharge if it scores the KO, and MoveEarthquake covers Rock and Electric threats. Safari Zone is the only downside since catching it takes patience.
Tauros trades roughly evenly with Brock's team.

Red & Blue Tauros Locations
The Safari Zone is the only place Tauros roams, rare across four encounters at levels 26 to 28. Limited Safari Balls and a low spawn rate make the bull one of the zone's harder catches.

Tauros Weakness
Tauros is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Tauros's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

RB Tauros Best Moveset
The single best Pokemon available. 110 Attack and 100 Speed behind MoveBody Slam that paralyzes roughly one in three hits, MoveHyper Beam that skips the recharge turn on KO, and MoveEarthquake for anything that resists Normal. Nothing matches this combination of speed, power, and disruption.

Moves List
Most of Tauros's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Hyper Beam and Skull Bash, but Ice and Ground and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Tauros Red & Blue Guide
- How do I catch Tauros in the Red & Blue Safari Zone?
See the Locations section above for where to find Tauros in Red & Blue.
Safari rules: You can only use Safari Balls. No battling. Two tactical items shift the catch/flee trade-off:
- Throw bait to keep Tauros from fleeing (flee rate cut to 1/4) but it becomes harder to catch (catch factor halved).
- Throw a rock to make Tauros easier to catch (catch factor doubled) but it flees twice as often.
- Each effect lasts 2-6 random turns; throwing one cancels the other.
In Red & Blue, Tauros plays as a sweeper. It outspeeds most threats, so it can pressure opponents before they move.
Yes. Paldean Tauros is a regional variant with different typing and a reworked stat spread. Introduced in Gen 9. Plays completely differently from the original.
Game Availability
