Is Hypno Good in Red & Blue Playthrough?
The budget Psychic-type. Hypno won't outspeed or outmuscle Alakazam, but it takes special hits much better and still benefits from Gen 1's broken Psychic typing. MoveHypnosis plus Psychic coverage handles most things. Good for players who can't trade for Alakazam.
Brock's typing presses Drowzee's defenses.
Drowzee trades roughly evenly with Misty's team.
Drowzee trades roughly evenly with Lt. Surge's team.
Hypno has the type edge here and should clean up Erika's team.
Hypno resists most of Koga's coverage and hits back hard.
Hypno trades roughly evenly with Sabrina's team.
Hypno has the type edge here and should clean up Blaine's team.
Hypno has the type edge here and should clean up Giovanni's team.
Hypno trades roughly evenly with Lorelei's team.

How to Get Hypno in Red & Blue
One uncommon spot at level 46 is all Hypno gets in the wild, just two entries. Leveling a Drowzee to 26 reaches it far sooner than that single late appearance.

Hypno Weakness
Bug moves hit Hypno for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. Hypno's special bulk (base 115 Special) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

How to Evolve
RB Hypno Best Moveset
115 Special makes Hypno one of the bulkier Psychic users available. MoveHypnosis puts threats to sleep, MovePsychic hits from a type nothing resists, and the bulk survives hits that drop faster Psychics like Alakazam. Slower but harder to remove.
