Yellow Route 20
The sea lane linking Fuchsia City to the Seafoam Islands, its currents thick with Tentacool and darting Staryu.
Route 20 is in Kanto, with Cinnabar Island to the west. In the story you arrive from Route 19 to the east and continue through its entrance to Seafoam Islands.
ROUTE 20 MAP
Surf is mandatory the moment you leave Cinnabar Island, since the leg out to the Seafoam Islands is one of the few stretches of Kanto with no walkable ground at all.
Pokemon Encounters
This Seafoam-bound sea lane is unusually generous on the Super Rod, landing Staryu and Tentacruel at 40 percent each instead of the usual Magikarp. Tentacool fill the surface otherwise, sitting in the 20s and 30s, useful for a quick water-team top-up.

TRAINERS
The channel toward the Seafoam Islands mixes Swimmers' Water-types with a few Bird Keepers overhead, the pack reaching level 35.
Route 20 Guide
Trading is unavoidable. Yellow's wild tables quietly drop some Pokemon, and a few like Pikachu only come as gifts, never as wild catches. On top of that, evolutions like Alakazam, Machamp, Golem, and Gengar only finish over a link cable. You'll need a Red or Blue cart to round out the dex.
Cut and Surf open the most ground. Cut clears the small trees blocking shortcuts, and the S.S. Anne's captain teaches it. Surf carries you across the water routes like 19 and 20. Strength comes later for boulder puzzles in caves. Spread these onto a party member you don't mind using as your traveler.
