Is Blastoise Good in Crystal Playthrough?
The move tutor in Goldenrod teaches MoveIce Beam to any compatible Water-type, which strips Blastoise's coverage advantage in Crystal. Feraligatr and Starmie learn the same moves locally. Blastoise handles Pryce and Clair's Gyarados fine, but so does half the Water roster without a trade.

|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |

Blastoise Evolutions
Blastoise is the final form in a three-stage chain from Squirtle through Wartortle. Breeding this form produces Squirtle eggs (average hatch time). Evolving from Squirtle gave Blastoise the biggest boost in Sp.Def (+41), bringing the total to 530 stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Blastoise to get Squirtle eggs easily using 36 partners from the Monster and Water 1 egg groups. Notable egg moves include Confusion, Flail, Foresight and 3 more.
C Blastoise Best Moveset
One of the few Pokemon with MoveRapid Spin to clear MoveSpikes, the format's defining entry hazard. 85 Sp. Atk puts MoveSurf at respectable power, and MoveIce Beam adds Ice coverage. Held ItemLeftovers sustains the removal role. The hazard removal niche separates Blastoise from the other mid-tier Water-types.

Moves List
Don't skip the egg moves. Blastoise picks up Confusion and Flail only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Hydro Pump and Surf while coverage across 8 types adds range.

Gigantamax Blastoise is exclusive to Sword & Shield, so it's not usable in Crystal. The form has a unique appearance and a signature G-Max move.
Game Availability
Blastoise first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 9 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 6 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
