Blastoise never surfaces in Sinnoh, so its shiny must come from the Squirtle line raised in HeartGold or SoulSilver and traded over. See every game where Shiny Blastoise can be hunted
Blastoise Weakness
Electric and Grass moves hit Blastoise for super-effective damage. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Blastoise's overall bulk (79/100/105) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

Blastoise Evolutions
Blastoise is the final form in a three-stage chain from Squirtle through Wartortle. Breeding this form produces Squirtle eggs (average hatch time). Evolving from Squirtle gave Blastoise the biggest boost in Sp.Def (+41), bringing the total to 530 stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Blastoise to get Squirtle eggs easily using 63 partners from the Monster and Water 1 egg groups. Notable egg moves include Aqua Jet, Aqua Ring, Fake Out and 9 more.
DP Blastoise Best Moveset
Hazard removal on a tank this bulky is exactly what teams need when MoveStealth Rock sits on every field. 100 Defense and 105 Sp. Def soak up damage while the moveset clears hazards with MoveRapid Spin and fires back Water attacks. That utility alone earns a roster spot.

Moves List
Don't skip the egg moves. Blastoise picks up Aqua Jet and Aqua Ring only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Hydro Cannon and Hydro Pump while coverage across 8 types adds range.

Blastoise Diamond & Pearl Guide
Mega Evolution isn't available in Diamond & Pearl, but Blastoise does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Blastoise hits 630 BST.
In Diamond & Pearl, use Blastoise as a balanced. Splits damage between physical and special. Speed is middling, Surf is the primary attack.
For Diamond & Pearl, build your team around Venusaur. These have the highest co-usage rates with Blastoise in competitive formats. They cover each other's weaknesses.
For Diamond & Pearl, run Bold on Blastoise. +Defense is what matters, and the -Attack cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the balanced role.
Gigantamax Blastoise is exclusive to Sword & Shield, so it's not usable in Diamond & Pearl. The form has a unique appearance and a signature G-Max move.
Game Availability
Blastoise first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 9 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 6 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
