Is Slowpoke Good in Diamond & Pearl Playthrough?
Not in the Sinnoh regional dex. Slowpoke requires Pal Park import. Slowbro at 37 has bulk, but Sinnoh's Water roster doesn't need imports. AbilityOwn Tempo prevents confusion if imported.

How to Get Slowpoke in Diamond & Pearl
Slowpoke is Pearl-exclusive in the wild, a single Poke Radar spot at level 11 on one route. Diamond players get none and have to trade for it, since there is no Diamond encounter at all.

How to Get Shiny Slowpoke in Diamond & Pearl
Slowpoke lazes in the Route 205 grass in Pearl, where a PokeRadar chain shaves its shiny odds right down. Compare Shiny Slowpoke odds across every game
Diamond & Pearl Shiny Slowpoke Calculator
3 MethodsThe best route is PokeRadar Chain at full boosts, about 1 in 200 on each try. Tune it below.
PokeRadar Chain: Chain shaking-grass patches without breaking the combo. The rate peaks at a chain of 40.
Masuda Method: Breed with a parent from a different-language game. Works on any breedable line.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 22-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 58-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 139-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 460-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Want exact numbers for your session? Calculate your shiny odds in Diamond & Pearl with Slowpoke preloaded.
Slowpoke Weakness
Slowpoke's Water/Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Grass, Bug, Ghost, and Dark. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Slowpoke's physical bulk (base 65 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass, Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Fighting, Psychic, Steel |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Slowpoke easily with 63 breeding partners from the Monster and Water 1 egg groups. Pass egg moves like Belly Drum, Block, Future Sight and 7 more to offspring.
DP Slowpoke Best Moveset
Incredibly slow at base 15 Speed, and while 90 HP gives it some bulk, the other stats are too mediocre. Evolve into Slowbro before building a moveset.

Moves List
The natural movepool does the job, but Belly Drum and Block from the egg pool give Slowpoke something extra. Pair those with Future Sight and Dream Eater for STAB and coverage across 7 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Slowpoke Diamond & Pearl Guide
No. Slowpoke only evolves into Slowking through a real trade. There is no in-game alternative in Diamond & Pearl. The King's Rock must be held during the trade. Bring one over from a sibling Gen 3 game if needed.
Yes. Wild Slowpoke in Diamond & Pearl can hold Lagging Tail (5%). Use Thief (TM46) or Covet to swipe the held item without affecting your catch chance. Quickest way to farm rare items like Lagging Tail.
For Diamond & Pearl, you can run Slowpoke through the first few routes without issues. 315 BST won't carry you far though. Get it to Slowbro as fast as you can.
Slowpoke has a Galarian form that swaps the typing and reshuffles the stats. Introduced in Gen 8. Worth checking if the original version doesn't fit your team.
Game Availability
Since debuting in Red & Blue, Slowpoke has appeared in 21 titles over 9 generations. Along the way, it received a Galarian form in Generation 8, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
