How to Get Shiny Drifloon in Diamond & Pearl
Drifloon floats in at the Valley Windworks on Fridays, but a shiny is faster to breed via the Masuda Method. Compare Shiny Drifloon odds across every game
Diamond & Pearl Shiny Drifloon Calculator
2 MethodsThe best route is Masuda Method, about 1 in 1,639 on each try.
Masuda Method: Breed with a parent from a different-language game. Works on any breedable line.
Soft Reset: Save in front of a static, gift, or legendary encounter, then reset until it sparkles.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 173-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 472-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 1,136-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 3,773-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Planning a longer hunt? Set up Drifloon in the Diamond & Pearl Shiny Odds Calculator to compare every method side by side.
Drifloon Weakness
Electric, Ice, Rock, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Drifloon for super-effective damage. The upside? Normal, Fighting, and Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Ice, Rock, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Grass, Poison |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Normal, Fighting, Ground |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

Drifloon Evolutions
Drifloon is the base form in a two-stage line leading to Drifblim. Check the evolution method below. A decent partner pool for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are slow to hatch. The evolved forms gain up to 150 total stats over Drifloon. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Drifloon easily with 31 breeding partners from the Amorphous egg group. Pass egg moves like Body Slam, Destiny Bond, Disable and 3 more to offspring.
DP Drifloon Best Moveset
Ghost/Flying at 90 HP but 34 Defense means the bulk is misleading. AbilityUnburden doubles Speed after losing a held item, which sets up sweeping potential. The moveset previews Drifblim's style but needs the evolution. Drifblim is the next step.

Moves List
Don't skip the egg moves. Drifloon picks up Body Slam and Destiny Bond only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Shadow Ball and Ominous Wind while Normal and Dark coverage and more adds range.

Drifloon Diamond & Pearl Guide
Drifloon is a static encounter at Valley Windworks in Diamond & Pearl. Drifloon appears at level 22. Save before the encounter. These one-shot Pokemon don't respawn if you knock them out or run out of Poke Balls.
In Diamond & Pearl, for a casual playthrough, Drifloon works as a placeholder. Ghost/Flying coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Drifblim. That's where the stats start mattering.
Game Availability
Debuting in Diamond & Pearl, Drifloon appears in 13 games across 6 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
