Is Nosepass Good in FireRed & LeafGreen Playthrough?

Rock from Hoenn with AbilitySturdy or AbilityMagnet Pull. Trade-only. Massive Defense but terrible offense. Doesn't evolve in Gen 3. Onix is the native equivalent, and Onix is already underwhelming.

Nosepass cannot be caught in this game. It must be traded in from a compatible game where it appears in the wild. On GBA, cross-region trading unlocks post-game after Celio's Sevii Islands Ruby & Sapphire quest. The Switch re-release supports only one-way transfers out to Pokemon HOME.

How to Get Nosepass in FireRed & LeafGreen

Nowhere in FRLG produces Nosepass. Hoenn's Granite Cave is the only Gen 3 wild source, so trading from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald is required for the compass-nose rock type.

Nosepass cannot be caught in the wild in FireRed & LeafGreen, but you can still get it via these paths:

Pokemon HOME · Switch Rerelease

Playing the Switch version of FireRed & LeafGreen? Pokemon HOME compatibility is post-launch but deposit-only by design (FRLG → HOME). Inbound HOME transfer of Nosepass into FRLG is not possible — an original GBA cartridge with a Link Cable is the only inbound route.

Catch in the wild and trade from these games:

Then trade to FireRed & LeafGreen.

Nosepass Weakness

Nosepass's Rock typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. The Rock typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Nosepass's physical bulk (base 135 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Nosepass FireRed & LeafGreen Guide

  • Nosepass isn't catchable in FireRed & LeafGreen. Catch one in Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald, then trade it to FireRed & LeafGreen.

Game Availability

Since Ruby & Sapphire, Nosepass has been in 15 games. Requiring an item-based evolution to obtain means it's consistently available but requires more effort than simply catching it in the wild.
