Is Omastar Good in FireRed & LeafGreen Playthrough?
Rock/Water with AbilitySwift Swim that never activates in FRLG's story. AbilityShell Armor blocks crits instead. Omastar handles Blaine and contributes against Lance through Rock coverage. The late evolution limits story contribution but the Special Attack is strong for the endgame stretch.
Omanyte's Rock-Water typing resists Brock's offense, and MoveWater Gun hits both Geodude and Onix for four-times damage. High Defense plus MoveWithdraw turns every trade in Omanyte's favor.
Omanyte resists Misty's Water Pulse at half damage, and its own Water Gun bounces off her team at half too. The trade boils down to whoever lands the first MoveWater Pulse confusion roll.
Omanyte takes Surge's Electric attacks for double damage, but MoveMud Shot hits Raichu and Voltorb back for four-times. Raichu outspeeds, so brace for the first Thunder Wave before swinging.
Every one of Erika's Grass attacks hits Omanyte for four-times damage. Rock Throw (TM48) is the only offensive answer that lands super-effectively, but Omanyte won't survive a Giga Drain exchange. Lead a Fire-type instead.
MoveMud Shot doubles against every member of Koga's Poison team. Omastar resists Sludge at half and out-speeds Weezing, clearing the gym before Self-Destruct comes out. Muk's MoveMinimize is the only wrinkle.
Omastar's Rock-Water wall takes Sabrina's Psychic hits at neutral, and MoveMud Shot doubles against Venomoth through its Poison half. Alakazam's Psychic hits hard, but two Water Guns drop it before a second Psychic connects.
Water moves crush every member of Blaine's Fire team. Omastar's Rock half resists Fire attacks at half damage too, so even Arcanine's Fire Blast chips rather than KOs.
Water Gun hits Giovanni's Rhyhorn and Rhydon for four-times damage, and Mud Shot doubles on Nidoking and Nidoqueen through their Poison half. Omastar's Water typing doesn't save it from Earthquake, but it out-speeds Giovanni's Rhyhorn pair and fires Water Gun first.
Omastar resists Lorelei's Ice Beam at half damage, but MoveSurf only hits back at neutral since no Omastar move doubles on her team. Cloyster's MoveSpikes chip every switch, so the fight drags.
Surf one-shots both of Bruno's Onix at four-times damage. His Fighting trio, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Machamp, hits Omastar for double damage in return. MoveMud Shot chips through Machamp's MoveBulk Up, but priority MoveMach Punch is the wildcard on the last turn.
Agatha's Poison attacks land at half damage on Omastar's Rock half. MoveSurf hits every member at neutral, and MoveMud Shot doubles on Arbok through its Poison typing. Gengar and Haunter's AbilityLevitate blocks Ground moves, so stick with Surf for those two.
Lance's Flying half is Omastar's playground. MoveAncient Power doubles on Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and Dragonite through their Flying type, while Surf handles the two Dragonair neutrally. Hyper Beam from Lance's ace is the one punch that Omastar can't tank, so finish Dragonite with a clean Rock move trade before it swings.
Ancient Power doubles on Pidgeot and Arcanine through their Flying or Fire halves, and Surf hits Rhydon for four-times damage. Blue's Blastoise trades Water for Water at half damage both ways, so it comes down to whoever lands a crit first.
Omanyte can be revived from a fossil obtained on Cinnabar Island. Revive Helix Fossil. Revive the Helix Fossil at the Cinnabar Island Pokemon Lab

Omastar Weakness
Omastar's Rock/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Omastar's physical bulk (base 125 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |

Its tentacles are highly developed as if they are hands and feet. As soon as it ensnares prey, it bites.
Despite having strong fangs and tentacles, it went extinct when its heavy shell made it unable to catch prey.
