Trade evolution only. AbilityGuts plus Machamp's enormous Attack means status conditions make it even more dangerous. Handles Giovanni, Lorelei, and Bruno with Fighting coverage that few Pokemon match. The trade requirement is the only barrier. If you can trade, Machamp is one of FRLG's best.

How to Get Machamp in FireRed & LeafGreen
Machoke evolves into Machamp through a player-to-player trade. No wild Machamp anywhere in FRLG. On original GBA cartridges you need a Link Cable or the Wireless Adapter to trade with another Gen 3 game. On the 2026 Nintendo Switch re-release, two Switch consoles in the same room trade over Switch local wireless, no extra accessories required.
Wild Machamp may be holding when caught:
Catch Machop or Machoke at any of these 4 spots to eventually evolve into Machamp.

Machamp Evolutions
Machamp evolved from Machop's chain using a trade. It's a non-standard trigger, so check the details below. Breed this form to get Machop eggs (average hatch time). The evolution from Machop pushed Machamp to 505 total stats. Attack saw the largest single gain at +50. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

Machamp FireRed & LeafGreen Guide
Machamp is obtained by trade-evolving Machoke. Catch or evolve a Machoke first, then trade. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Machoke to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required.
Game Availability
Available since Red & Blue, Machamp appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Gigantamax form in Generation 8.
