Is Suicune Good in FireRed & LeafGreen Playthrough?
The bulkiest Water legendary available in FRLG — native if you picked Charmander, trade-only for the other two starters. AbilityPressure doubles PP consumption. Massive Special Defense. Suicune absorbs special attacks and handles Blaine and Giovanni if imported. On original GBA cartridges the trade came in from Crystal or Pokemon Colosseum via Link Cable. On the 2026 Switch re-release trades run over Switch local wireless — but since Colosseum isn't re-released on Switch, the only Switch-era source for an off-starter Suicune is another FRLG-Switch player who picked Charmander and caught theirs.

How to Get Suicune in FireRed & LeafGreen
Charmander-starter players get Suicune as their roaming legendary. After clearing the Five Island Team Rocket event, the beast begins roaming at level 50. Catch rate 3, no second chance. On original GBA cartridges a bug called the Roar glitch could permanently delete Suicune if it successfully used Roar on your Pokemon — catastrophic for anyone hunting the signature Water legendary. The 2026 Nintendo Switch re-release patches this, so Suicune stays in the roaming pool no matter how a battle ends.

Suicune Weakness
Electric and Grass moves hit Suicune for super-effective damage. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Suicune's overall bulk (100/115/115) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

115 Defense and 115 Sp. Def with 100 HP create one of the bulkiest Water types available. AbilityPressure doubles PP drain, stalling opponents out of moves. MoveCalm Mind boosts Sp. Atk and Sp. Def for an increasingly unbreakable tank. The moveset sets up and blocks everything, firing MoveSurf for Water TermStab once boosted.

Moves List
The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Suicune's coverage across 8 types all comes from technical machines, built on top of Hydro Pump and Surf for same-type damage. Hydro Pump and Blizzard are the payoff moves.
