Seaking Best Moveset
Hidden AbilityLightning Rod absorbs Electric moves for Sp. Atk boosts, and AbilitySwift Swim doubles 68 Speed in rain. The moveset has Water TermStab at 92 Attack but fell from C-tier because neither the offensive numbers nor the Speed without rain justify a slot anymore.
Generic Water-type in Gen I (Red & Blue). 92 Attack was decent, but all Water moves used the Special stat. The physical power went unused.
Utility Moveset
- Double Edge
- Substitute
- Agility
- Blizzard

Still no physical Water STAB in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Swift Swim doubled Speed in rain, but 92 Attack with no way to apply it was pointless.
Utility Moveset
- Return
- Rest
- Swords Dance
- Sleep Talk

Dropped in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Three gens of 92 Attack with no physical Water move. The generic Water-type that couldn't even use its typing.
Physical Attacker Moveset
- Surf
- Rain Dance
- Flail
- Substitute
Recommended Teammates
Physical/Special split gave Waterfall to 92 Attack in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Seaking finally had physical STAB, and the usage bump reflected it.

Physical Sweeper Moveset

Lightning Rod absorbed Electric moves in Gen V (Black & White). Seaking was Water-type, so Electric was already neutral. Niche within a niche.
Special Setup Sweeper Moveset
- Ice Beam
- Agility
- Hidden Power Grass
- Knock Off
Recommended Teammates
Fell in Gen VI (X & Y). 92 Attack with Waterfall wasn't enough once every other Water-type had better stats, better abilities, or better coverage.
Bulky Support Moveset
- Megahorn
- Protect
- Waterfall
- Aqua Ring
Recommended Teammates
Swift Swim in rain was the strongest set across eight gens in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Even at full speed, 92 Attack couldn't match what Kabutops or Kingdra brought.
Special Setup Sweeper Moveset
- Waterfall
- Ice Beam
- Agility
- Drill Run
Recommended Teammates
No new tools in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Seaking existed alongside better rain sweepers and better Water-types at every tier. Generic stats found no niche.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Mud Shot
- Psybeam

Seaking Weakness
Seaking's Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric and Grass. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Lightning Rod grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Seaking can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

In autumn, its body becomes more fatty in preparing to propose to a mate. It takes on beautiful colors.
Seaking Guide
Seaking looks average on paper at 450 BST. But Swift Swim is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier on our tier list.
Seaking gets Swift Swim, Water Veil, and Lightning Rod. But Swift Swim is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Seaking is a physical attacker with base 92 Attack. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 68 Speed, it won't be moving first often.
Run Waterfall, Drillrun, Megahorn, and Poisonjab on Seaking. Waterfall is the most common pick at 0% usage. Waterfall provides reliable STAB damage.
