Latios Best Moveset
130 Sp. Atk at 110 Speed behind Dragon/Psychic TermStab with AbilityLevitate blocking Ground. Held ItemSoul Dew boosts Dragon and Psychic damage by 20% each. NatureTimid outspeeds the tier. The moveset is a dedicated special attacker that hits harder than Latias at the cost of some bulk. A-Tier through raw special damage and Speed.
Dragon/Psychic with Soul Dew pushed 130 Sp. Atk even higher in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Banned from standard play alongside its twin for the same reason.

Still restricted in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). 130 Sp. Atk and 110 Speed was too fast and too powerful for standard play, even without Soul Dew.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Recover
- Thunder
- Dragon Pulse
Recommended Teammates
Dropped to the top of standard play in Gen V (Black & White). Draco Meteor from 130 Sp. Atk hit like a nuclear bomb. Choice Specs sets blew through anything that didn't resist Dragon.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Trick
- Dragon Pulse
Recommended Teammates
Defog plus offensive power in Gen VI (X & Y) made Latios one of the best offensive Defoggers. Removed hazards while threatening KOs on the same turn.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Surf
Recommended Teammates
Dropped when Fairy-types proliferated in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Dragon STAB was resisted by an entire new type, and the Tapus checked Latios hard.
Special Revenge Killer Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Trick
Recommended Teammates
Same A-Tier level in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Still fast and powerful, but the format had fully adapted to fast Dragon-type special attackers.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Trick
- Mystical Fire
Recommended Teammates
Three gens at A-Tier in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). The more offensive twin to Latias. Both landed at the same competitive level for three straight gens.

- Draco Meteor
- Luster Purge
- Calm Mind

Latios Weakness
Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy moves hit Latios for super-effective damage. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Latios's special bulk (base 110 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, Psychic |

Base Stats
Latios's built around special offense. Sp. Atk leads the charge, HP pays for it. Near-impossible to catch, worth 3 Sp. Atk EVs. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
It is a highly intelligent Pokémon. By folding back its forelegs in flight, it can overtake jet planes.
Latios Guide
At 600 BST, Latios is built different. We rank it B-Tier. As a Legendary Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a support.
Yes. Mega Latios hits 700 BST, a solid jump from the base 600. Hold the Mega Stone, trigger it in battle, and it lasts the whole fight. One Mega per team.
Watch for Lapras (Ice), Heracross (Bug), and Misdreavus (Ghost) when using Latios. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Dragon, Dark, and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Run Levitate on Latios. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche.
Latios fills the support role. It's a special attacker with base 130 Sp. Atk. Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Game Availability
Latios has appeared in 16 games since Ruby & Sapphire, spanning 8 generations. As a Legendary, it's typically a one-per-save encounter tied to the story or post-game content.
