Fairy TermStab with a choice of AbilityMagic Guard blocking all indirect damage or AbilityUnaware ignoring opposing stat boosts. Held ItemLeftovers with NatureBold investment creates a physical tank that sets up with MoveCalm Mind and outlasts everything. Tera changes the defensive profile entirely. S-Tier for a reason, and the moveset reflects that.
85 base Special and a massive movepool gave Clefable options in Gen I (Red & Blue). Thunder Wave plus Body Slam paralysis spam was annoying, and it could fill gaps on almost any team.

Softboiled kept it healthy, and Normal-typing meant only Fighting moves threatened it. Moonlight, Encore, and Belly Drum gave it surprises that most opponents couldn't predict.

More specialized Pokemon crowded Clefable out in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Normal-type with no natural resistances became a liability when the format rewarded defensive synergy.

Magic Guard changed everything. Life Orb with no recoil, immunity to Stealth Rock, Toxic, and weather chip. Clefable suddenly had a real identity in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl).

Magic Guard was great but 95 base Sp. Atk wasn't enough to threaten the power-crept Gen V (Black & White) metagame. Good ability on a Pokemon that couldn't hit hard enough.

The Fairy retyping in Gen VI (X & Y) made Clefable a monster. Resistances to Dragon, Fighting, Bug, and Dark, plus Magic Guard or Unaware. It walled half the format.

Stayed dominant in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Unaware shut down setup sweepers cold, Magic Guard ignored chip damage, and Fairy STAB covered everything it needed to threaten.

Three straight gens at the top and no signs of fading. Clefable's combination of typing, abilities, and reliable recovery made it one of the safest picks in the game.

Clefable Weakness
Clefable is weak to Poison and Steel. On the flip side, it's immune to Dragon-type moves entirely. With 95 HP and balanced defenses, Clefable can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

| 2x (Weak) | Poison, Steel |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Bug, Dark |

Base Stats
Clefable's spread isn't flashy. HP leads, Speed trails, 3 stats clear the bar. Very hard to catch and worth 3 HP EVs, on a fast 800K XP curve.
A timid fairy Pokémon that is rarely seen, it will run and hide the moment it senses people.
Clefable Guide
Don't let Clefable's 483 base stat total fool you. Magic Guard is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it B-Tier.
Run Magic Guard on Clefable. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Clefable also gets Cute Charm and Unaware, but they don't compare.
Clefable fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker with base 70 Attack and 95 Sp. Atk. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
The core moveset is Moonblast, Moonlight, Calm Mind, and Stealth Rock. Moonblast leads at 0% usage. Moonblast provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
Clefable has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 22 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
