Clefable's Fairy typing gives it an immunity to Dragon. Only 2 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. Magic Guard adds more value on top. A competitive option since Gen 1. It relies on priority moves or Scarf to keep up.

Clefable's spread isn't flashy. HP leads, Speed trails, 3 stats clear the bar. Very hard to catch and worth 3 HP EVs, on a fast 800K XP curve.

Clefable Weakness

Good

Clefable is weak to Poison and Steel-type moves. On the flip side, it's immune to Dragon-type moves entirely. With 95 HP and balanced defenses, Clefable can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

Clefable doesn't evolve through normal leveling. You'll need an evolution item to get here from Cleffa's line. Breed this form to get Cleffa eggs (quick to hatch). Evolving from Cleffa gave Clefable the biggest boost in Sp.Atk (+50), bringing the total to 483 stats.

Clefable's job is getting Stealth Rock up and staying on the field. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn, Magic Guard helps it stick around, and max HP and Sp. Def EVs prioritize longevity. Soft-Boiled keeps it healthy between hits.

No wild encounters for Clefable in Legends: Z-A. Bring Cleffa over from Crystal, Diamond, or Legends: Arceus, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.

How to Obtain Clefable in Legends: Z-A

  1. Cleffa
    Step 1Breed Cleffa from Clefairy
  2. Clefable
    Step 3Clefable
  • Don't let Clefable's 483 base stat total fool you. Magic Guard is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it A-Tier.

  • Clefable's biggest threats include Gengar (Poison) and Steelix (Steel), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Clefairy evolves into Clefable using a Moon Stone. Clefable is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Cleffa. At 483 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Run Magic Guard on Clefable. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Clefable also gets Cute Charm and Unaware, but they don't compare.

  • Clefable fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Clefable appears in 22 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Clefable has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 22 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
