Clefable's Fairy typing gives it an immunity to Dragon. Only 2 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. Magic Guard adds more value on top. A competitive option since Gen 1. It relies on priority moves or Scarf to keep up.
Clefable's spread isn't flashy. HP leads, Speed trails, 3 stats clear the bar. Very hard to catch and worth 3 HP EVs, on a fast 800K XP curve.
A timid fairy Pokémon that is rarely seen, it will run and hide the moment it senses people.
Their ears are sensitive enough to hear a pin drop from over a mile away, so they’re usually found in quiet places.
Clefable Weakness
GoodClefable is weak to Poison and Steel-type moves. On the flip side, it's immune to Dragon-type moves entirely. With 95 HP and balanced defenses, Clefable can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
Clefable doesn't evolve through normal leveling. You'll need an evolution item to get here from Cleffa's line. Breed this form to get Cleffa eggs (quick to hatch). Evolving from Cleffa gave Clefable the biggest boost in Sp.Atk (+50), bringing the total to 483 stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Clefable to get Cleffa eggs easily using 41 partners from the Fairy egg group. Notable egg moves include Aromatherapy, Heal Pulse, Present and 2 more.
This is a pure walling set. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn so Clefable sticks around, and the Bold nature reinforces physical wall. Soft-Boiled handles sustain while Magic Guard does work passively.

Meteor Mash and Moonblast bring the raw damage. But Clefable also picks up coverage across 13 types from TMs, making it tough to find a safe switch. You're not locked into one angle here.

Step 3Clefable ✓
Don't let Clefable's 483 base stat total fool you. Magic Guard is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it A-Tier.
Run Magic Guard on Clefable. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Clefable also gets Cute Charm and Unaware, but they don't compare.
Clefable fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Clefable appears in 22 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
Clefable has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 22 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
