Mid-stage Pokemon like Clefairy rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Clefable, which is where the real potential kicks in. Can go either physical or special depending on the set. Part of the Gen 1 roster.

Nothing fancy in Clefairy's spread. It leans mixed with HP out front. And you'll get 2 HP EVs per KO for it. Follows a fast 800K XP curve.

It is said that happiness will come to those who see a gathering of Clefairy dancing under a full moon.

Sword

Its adorable behavior and cry make it highly popular. However, this cute Pokémon is rarely found.

Shield

Clefairy Weakness

Good

Clefairy's Fairy typing leaves it vulnerable to Poison and Steel moves. It shrugs off Dragon-type attacks completely. Clefairy's Fairy typing only leaves 2 gaps to cover.

Clefairy hasn't fully evolved, but Eviolite's 50% bulk boost makes it viable anyway. Bold nature with HP-heavy investment EVs shapes the defensive spread, and Friendguard adds utility.

STAB runs through Misty Explosion and Moonblast for the basics, but Clefairy's real strength is the 13-type coverage spread. Normal and Psychic hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

or evolve from Cleffa (Step 1)
  • At 323 BST, Clefairy is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Clefable before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Watch for Nidoking (Poison) and Scizor (Steel) when using Clefairy. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 35 Speed, Clefairy won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Cleffa evolves into Clefairy by leveling up. Clefairy evolves into Clefable using a Moon Stone. Clefairy is a middle-stage evolution in the Cleffa line.

  • Clefairy gets Magic Guard, Cute Charm, and Friend Guard. But Magic Guard is the one that matters — it's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • Clefairy is a special attacker with base 60 Sp. Atk. But the speed tells the real story — base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

  • Clefairy appears in 22 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Present since Red & Blue, Clefairy appears in 22 games spanning 9 generations. Gen 1 originals like Clefairy have the longest track record of availability in the series.
