Mid-stage Pokemon like Clefairy rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Clefable, which is where the real potential kicks in. Can go either physical or special depending on the set. Part of the Gen 1 roster.
Nothing fancy in Clefairy's spread. It leans mixed with HP out front. And you'll get 2 HP EVs per KO for it. Follows a fast 800K XP curve.
On nights with a full moon, Clefairy gather from all over and dance. Bathing in moonlight makes them float.
Clefairy Weakness
GoodClefairy's Normal typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting moves. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely. Clefairy's Normal typing only leaves 1 gap to cover.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
Clefairy connects Cleffa to Clefable in this chain. At least one evolution here needs an evolution item. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+20 from Cleffa). The final form adds another 160 stats on top.
How to Evolve
Breed with Clefairy to get Cleffa eggs easily from the Fairy egg group. Notable egg moves include Amnesia, Aromatherapy, Belly Drum and 9 more.
Clefairy's built to absorb hits. Bold nature leans into physical wall duty, Eviolite gives it a bulk boost that only works before full evolution, and Wish handles sustain. Magic Guard and flexible EVs EVs tie the defensive profile together.

STAB runs through Last Resort and Double-Edge for the basics, but Clefairy's real strength is the 14-type coverage spread. Fighting and Psychic hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

This 2-stage line starts with Cleffa, a baby that doesn't spawn wild. Breed Clefairy at the nursery to hatch one, then level through the stages to reach Clefairy.

At 323 BST, Clefairy is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Clefable before bringing it to any serious fight.
Watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Clefairy. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 35 Speed, Clefairy won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Clefairy gets Magic Guard, Cute Charm, and Friend Guard. But Magic Guard is the one that matters — it's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Clefairy is leaning toward the special side (base 60 Sp. Atk). But the speed tells the real story — base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
