Stats & Training
Amoonguss's spread is anchored by HP, with balanced defenses backing it up. Speed is the clear weak point. Worth 2 HP EVs per KO, and the medium-fast 1M XP curve keeps leveling painless.
This Pokémon puffs poisonous spores at its foes. If the spores aren’t washed off quickly, they’ll grow into mushrooms wherever they land.
Amoonguss generally doesn’t move much. It tends to stand still near Poké Balls that have been dropped on the ground.
Amoonguss Weakness
Amoonguss's Grass/Poison typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Flying, Psychic |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Fighting, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
In Sword & Shield, Incineroar's Flare Blitz also KOs at 85-101%.

Amoonguss Guide
In Sword & Shield, Don't let Amoonguss's 464 base stat total fool you. Regenerator is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it A-Tier as a trick room. Sludge Bomb with Rocky Helmet is the standard set.
In Sword & Shield, watch for Arcanine (Fire), Walrein (Ice), and Staraptor (Flying) when using Amoonguss. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Psychic-type attackers are also a problem. At base 30 Speed, Amoonguss won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
In Sword & Shield, Run Regenerator on Amoonguss. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Amoonguss also gets Effect Spore, but they don't compare.
In Sword & Shield, Amoonguss fills the trick room role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 85 Attack). Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Sword & Shield, Amoonguss has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Fire, Ice, and Flying-type attackers hit hardest.
Game Availability
Introduced in Black & White, Amoonguss has appeared in 9 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
