Clefable's normal typing gives it an immunity to Ghost. Only 1 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. Magic Guard adds more value on top. A competitive option since Gen 1. It relies on priority moves or Scarf to keep up.
Clefable's spread isn't flashy. HP leads, Speed trails, 3 stats clear the bar. Very hard to catch and worth 3 HP EVs, on a fast 800K XP curve.
It has an acute sense of hearing. It can easily hear a pin being dropped nearly 1,100 yards away.
A timid fairy POKéMON that is rarely seen, it will run and hide the moment it senses people.
Clefable Weakness
GoodClefable is weak to Fighting-type moves. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. With 95 HP and balanced defenses, Clefable can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
Clefable doesn't evolve through normal leveling. You'll need an evolution item to get here from Cleffa's line. Breed this form to get Cleffa eggs (quick to hatch). Evolving from Cleffa gave Clefable the biggest boost in Sp.Atk (+50), bringing the total to 483 stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Clefable to get Cleffa eggs easily using 27 partners from the Fairy egg group. Notable egg moves include Amnesia, Belly Drum, Metronome and 5 more.
This is a pure walling set. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn so Clefable sticks around, and the Bold nature reinforces physical wall. Soft-Boiled handles sustain while Cutecharm does work passively.

Blizzard and Fire Blast bring the raw damage. But Clefable also picks up coverage across 10 types from TMs, making it tough to find a safe switch. You're not locked into one angle here.

This 3-stage chain starts with Cleffa, a baby that doesn't spawn wild. Breed Clefairy at the nursery to hatch one, then level through the stages to reach Clefable.

Step 3Clefable ✓
Don't let Clefable's 483 base stat total fool you. Magic Guard is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier.
Clefable's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Run Magic Guard on Clefable. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Clefable also gets Cute Charm and Unaware, but they don't compare.
Clefable fills the balanced role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 95 Sp. Atk). At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Clefable appears in 22 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
Clefable has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 22 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
