Is Wynaut Good in Ruby & Sapphire Playthrough?
Lavaridge Town egg gift. Baby Wobbuffet with AbilityShadow Tag for trapping. Evolves into Wobbuffet at 15 with the same MoveCounter and MoveMirror Coat gimmick. The early egg access gives Wobbuffet earlier than trading, but the counter/mirror strategy is still a coin flip every turn.

Gift
Wynaut is given to you as a gift in Lavaridge Town at Lv 5. Hatches from an Egg. Given as an Egg by the old woman in Lavaridge Town, and it hatches into Wynaut.
Evolve Wynaut to Wobbuffet
Wynaut evolves into Wobbuffet at Level 15. Your Wynaut should hit Level 15 before you reach Flannery, at typical leveling pace.
How to Get Wynaut in Ruby & Sapphire
Wynaut lives on Mirage Island, a spot that only appears some days based on a hidden value. When the island is visible it is common there from levels 5 to 50, otherwise breed a Wobbuffet holding the Lax Incense.

How to Get Shiny Wynaut in Ruby & Sapphire
Wynaut only lives on the rare Mirage Island, so when the island finally appears, comb its grass and check every one for a shiny. Compare Shiny Wynaut odds across every game
Ruby & Sapphire Shiny Wynaut Calculator
3 MethodsEvery method here shares the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Soft Reset: Save in front of a static, gift, or legendary encounter, then reset until it sparkles.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.

WYNAUT can always be seen with a big, happy smile on its face. Look at its tail to determine if it is angry. When angered, this POKéMON will be slapping the ground with its tail.
WYNAUT gather on moonlit nights to play by squeezing up against each other. By being squeezed, this POKéMON gains endurance and is trained to dole out powerful counterattacks.
Wynaut Ruby & Sapphire Guide
In Ruby and Sapphire you have three options. The simplest is free: you're handed a Wynaut Egg in Lavaridge Town. Breeding a Wobbuffet is the second route, though it needs a specific held item to work. The third, a wild Wynaut on Mirage Island, is so rare that almost nobody gets it that way.
Because the parent needs to be holding a Lax Incense. In Ruby and Sapphire, a Wobbuffet left alone at the Day Care just lays another Wobbuffet, not the baby form. Give one parent a Lax Incense to hold and the Egg hatches into Wynaut instead.
Game Availability
Wynaut first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 14 games across 7 generations. Obtainable through catching or hatching as a base form in most titles where it appears.
