Sunflora Best Moveset
105 Sp. Atk on Grass with AbilitySolar Power boosting it 50% under sun at the cost of HP each turn. AbilityChlorophyll doubles the 30 base Speed under sun instead. Either ability needs sun to function, and even with both active, the moveset trails Venusaur and Victreebel in every comparison. 30 Speed without sun is unplayable.
105 Sp. Atk from a Grass-type in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Respectable power, but 30 Speed meant Sunflora never attacked first. A turret that couldn't pivot.

Peaked in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Sunny Day teams let Chlorophyll Sunflora move at reasonable speed. Growth doubled Sp. Atk in sun. The dependency on weather was the ceiling.

Permanent Drought from Ninetales in Gen V (Black & White) should have helped. Venusaur, Lilligant, and every other Chlorophyll user had better stats and got the same sun.

Sun nerfed to 5 turns in Gen VI (X & Y). Sunflora lost permanent Chlorophyll and dropped further. Without sun, 30 Speed was a death sentence.

Sunflora Weakness
Sunflora is weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Sunflora's special bulk (base 85 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground |

Base Stats
Sunflora's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, Speed trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 2 Sp. Atk EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
In the daytime, it rushes about in a hectic manner, but it comes to a complete stop when the sun sets.
Sunflora Guide
Sunflora's biggest threats include Charizard (Fire), Cloyster (Ice), and Crobat (Poison), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 30 Speed, Sunflora won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Sunflora can work for a story run. 425 BST is average, but Grass typing fills a niche depending on your team composition.
Don't let Sunflora's 425 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as an attacker.
Run Chlorophyll on Sunflora. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Sunflora also gets Solar Power and Early Bird, but they don't compare.
Sunflora fills the attacker role. It's a special attacker with base 105 Sp. Atk. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Game Availability
Sunflora has been available in 16 games since Gold & Silver, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
