Gold & Silver Mt. Silver
Past Victory Road rises a mountain sealed until all sixteen badges are won. At its frozen peak waits Red, the silent trainer and the hardest fight in the game.
Mt. Silver is in Johto. In the story you arrive from Route 28 to the south.
MT. SILVER MAP
Flash, Surf, and Waterfall all earn their keep inside Mt. Silver, the toughest cave to cross in the game. A dark first hall gives way to a flooded climb up to the distant summit.
Pokemon Encounters
Larvitar is the trophy catch at 5 percent, the first step toward Tyranitar and a real test of patience. Gold players meet Ursaring on the slopes where Silver turns up Donphan, and both versions see Sneasel and Misdreavus after dark.

Red
Mt. Silver Guide
Finish nearly everything first. After you've worked through both regions and beaten Blue at the Viridian Gym, you visit Professor Oak in his Lab in Pallet Town and he clears you for the mountain, and only then does the guard step aside. It's built as the true final stop, so expect high-level wild Pokemon the moment you head in.
He's the toughest trainer in the game by a wide margin. Red opens with a level 81 Pikachu and backs it with Snorlax, Espeon, and the three Kanto starters all in the mid-70s. Bring full restores and a team near the level cap, because neither League run prepares you for this jump.
You're missing the badge that switches it on. Flash only lights the field once you hold the Zephyr Badge from Falkner, even after you pick up the move itself as HM05 from the elder atop Sprout Tower. Several caves call for it: Dark Cave, Kanto's Rock Tunnel, Mt. Mortar, the Whirl Islands, and the inside of Mt. Silver are all pitch black enough to leave you fumbling without it.
