Is Charizard Good in Gold & Silver Playthrough?
If you trade one in from Gen 1, Charizard is still a strong Fire/Flying option. But Typhlosion fills the same Fire role natively and doesn't require a trade. Charizard is for nostalgia, not necessity.

Charizard Weakness
Type-wise, Charizard takes extra damage from Rock, Water, and Electric. Watch out for Rock attacks, those deal 4x damage. Ground moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. With 78 HP and balanced defenses, Charizard can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Rock |
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Electric |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Fighting, Steel |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def

GS Charizard Best Moveset
109 Sp. Atk fires MoveFire Blast with genuine power, and MoveEarthquake on the physical side catches Rock types switching in. Held ItemLeftovers adds passive recovery each turn. Fire typing still draws Water attacks from the top tier, but the offensive output earns a real competitive spot.

Moves List
Breeding's the move. Ancient Power and Beat Up give Charizard options it can't learn any other way, and coverage across 8 types already covers a decent range on top of Fire Blast and Flamethrower. The egg moves push it further.

Charizard Gold & Silver Guide
Mega Evolution isn't available in Gold & Silver, but Charizard does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Charizard hits 634 BST.
In Gold & Silver, Charizard plays as a sweeper. It outspeeds most threats, so it can pressure opponents before they move.
Gigantamax Charizard is exclusive to Sword & Shield, so it's not usable in Gold & Silver. The form has a unique appearance and a signature G-Max move.
Game Availability
Charizard first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 9 generations. It later gained Mega X and Mega Y forms in Generation 6 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
