Gold & Silver Azalea Town
Team Rocket dug into the Slowpoke Well below town, hacking off Slowpoke tails to sell. Run them out and Kurt will make Poke Balls from your Apricorns. Bugsy's gym and Ilex Forest sit just west.
Azalea Town is in Johto, with Ilex Forest to the west. In the story you arrive from Route 33 to the east and continue north to Slowpoke Well.

Every wild catch in Azalea comes from headbutting trees. Pineco at 30 percent is the one to chase, since it shows up almost nowhere else and hardens into a sturdy Forretress.

Bugsy and his Scyther headline Azalea, a fast Bug-type that hits hard for an early gym. Your rival ambushes you nearby with a stolen starter, so come in with two jobs to finish, not one.
Azalea Town Guide
Sixteen, double the usual eight. You clear Johto's eight Gyms first, then sail to Kanto after the Elite Four for eight more. Kanto's lineup shifted in the years since Red and Blue: Janine took over the Fuchsia Gym from her father Koga, and Blue, the old Kanto rival, now runs the Viridian Gym.
They do, thanks to the game's internal clock. Goldenrod's haircut brothers raise a Pokemon's friendship on a set schedule, some shops stock special goods only on certain days, and a few people hand out a different gift each day. Check what day it is before you write a town off as finished.
