NATIONAL PARK MAP
Pokemon Encounters
The park grass hides Scyther and Pinsir, each at 5 percent and two of the best Bug-types in the game, reason enough to keep walking the loop. Sunkern and a morning Pidgey fill the common slots.

ITEMS
A woman by the benches in the National Park gives out a Quick Claw, the held item that sometimes lets a slower Pokemon strike first. TM28 Dig is here as well, handy for both battles and a quick exit from caves.
TM28 Dig
The user of Dig will burrow its way underground on the first turn, disappearing from view and becoming invulnerable to most attacks.

TRAINERS
Casual is the word for the National Park, four low-level trainers around level 15 sharing the lawns with the Bug-Catching Contest. Worth a lap for easy experience, not a real fight.

National Park Guide
Show up at the National Park on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday with one Pokemon and twenty Park Balls, then get twenty minutes to catch the best bug you can. Only your single best catch is judged. Win and you walk out with a Sun Stone, with an Everstone for second place and a Gold Berry for third. It's also one of the few dependable ways to land a Scyther or Pinsir in Gold and Silver.
