Is Ivysaur Good in FireRed & LeafGreen Playthrough?
Ivysaur handles the middle stretch of FRLG without much help. Surge and Erika both go down to Grass, and AbilityOvergrow turns risky encounters into manageable ones. Poison sub-typing means Erika's Grass attacks don't land super-effectively back. Evolves into Venusaur at 32 right before the difficulty climbs.
Bulbasaur resists most of Brock's coverage and hits back hard.
Ivysaur resists most of Misty's coverage and hits back hard.
Ivysaur has the type edge here and should clean up Lt. Surge's team.
Erika's typing presses Ivysaur's defenses.
Venusaur trades roughly evenly with Koga's team.
Venusaur trades roughly evenly with Sabrina's team.
Venusaur trades roughly evenly with Blaine's team.
Venusaur has the type edge here and should clean up Giovanni's team.
Venusaur resists most of Lorelei's coverage and hits back hard.
Venusaur has the type edge here and should clean up Bruno's team.
Agatha's team hits Venusaur's weaknesses hard.
Venusaur trades roughly evenly with Lance's team.
Venusaur trades roughly evenly with Terry's team.

Ivysaur Evolutions
Ivysaur sits between Bulbasaur and Venusaur in this three-stage line. Not the final form yet. For breeding, average hatch time with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. HP has grown the most so far (+15), but there's still another 120 stats to gain in the final evolution. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

Moves List
The egg pool carries weight here. Charm and Curse aren't available any other way for Ivysaur, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Solar Beam and Petal Dance for solid options.

There is a plant bulb on its back. When it absorbs nutrients, the bulb is said to blossom into a large flower.
When the bulb on its back grows large, it appears to lose the ability to stand on its hind legs.
Ivysaur FireRed & LeafGreen Guide
Bulbasaur is the easiest starter for FireRed & LeafGreen if you want a Grass/Poison Pokemon on your team. Bulbasaur trivializes the first two gyms. Vine Whip walks through Brock and Misty. Sleep Powder is a free win-button vs tough trainers, and Razor Leaf carries the Surge and Erika stretch. Sabrina is the worst matchup, so switch to a teammate. Koga and Blaine are manageable with Solar Beam in sun. Razor Leaf hits Lorelei's Cloyster hard, and Earthquake (Giovanni TM) covers Lance's Charizard.
