Gligar Best Moveset
Ground/Flying at 105 Defense and 85 Speed with AbilityImmunity preventing poison. Held ItemEviolite turns Gligar into one of the bulkiest physical walls available since Gliscor exists. The moveset absorbs physical hits, sets Stealth Rock, and pivots with MoveU-turn. Tera Ground removes the Ice and Water weaknesses. C-Tier despite being unevolved because Eviolite makes it that good.
Ground/Flying removed its own Ground weakness in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Swords Dance plus Earthquake from a Pokemon immune to Ground was a solid offensive set.

Hyper Cutter prevented Intimidate drops in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Defensive typing let it switch into Electric, Fighting, and Ground attacks freely.

Gliscor evolved from it in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Without Eviolite, Gligar was just a worse version of its own evolution.
Wall Moveset
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock

Eviolite arrived and made Gligar bulkier than Gliscor in some matchups in Gen V (Black & White). Roost plus 105 Defense plus Eviolite was physically impenetrable.
Wall Moveset
- Roost
- U Turn
- Knock Off
- Earthquake

Same Eviolite niche in Gen VI (X & Y). Defog gave it another utility move. Sometimes preferred over Gliscor for the raw defensive bulk.
Wall Moveset
- Stealth Rock
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Protect

Four gens of Eviolite relevance in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Ground immunity, Toxic immunity via Immunity ability, and a physically impenetrable wall. Reliable year after year.

Returned in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet) but Gliscor was available and generally better. The Eviolite niche was narrower than before.

Gligar Weakness
Gligar's Ground/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice and Water. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric and Ground-type attacks completely. Gligar's physical bulk (base 105 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Water |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Poison, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric, Ground |

Step 2Evolve into Gliscor
Base Stats
Gligar's spread isn't flashy. Defense leads, Sp. Atk trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Moderately hard to find and worth 1 Defense EV, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It sails on the winds with its limbs extended to strike from the sky. It aims for the prey’s face.
Gligar Guide
Gligar isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Gliscor to unlock its full potential. At 430 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Hyper Cutter prevents Attack from being lowered by other Pokémon. That's the one you want on Gligar. Immunity is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Sand Veil works too if your team needs something different.
Gligar fills the hazard setter role. It's a physical attacker with base 75 Attack. Base 85 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Gligar does the job early-game if you need a Ground/Flying type on your team. Evolve it into Gliscor before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
Game Availability
Gligar has been available in 17 games since Gold & Silver, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
