Its tail is tipped by a thick, horrible stinger. To bring down prey, it will first obscure their vision by covering their faces with its body, and then it will use the stinger to inject them with venom.

Legends: Arceus

Gligar Weakness

Gligar's Ground/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice and Water. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric and Ground-type attacks completely. Gligar's physical bulk (base 105 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Legends: Arceus Gligar Best Moveset

Bulk and offense in one package. Gligar runs Assault Vest for a special bulk boost with no status moves allowed with a Jolly nature, so it survives long enough to threaten with Earthquake. Flexible EVs and the remaining moves make it hard to safely switch into.

Best Build

Legends: Arceus uses different battle mechanics.

Competitive build content is not applicable for this game. Select a main series game for builds.

Moves

Gligar's movepool balances level-up moves with TM options. Consistent STAB comes from Earth Power and Mud Bomb, and coverage across 8 types keeps opponents from switching in for free. No major gaps here.

Gligar Guide

  • In Legends: Arceus, Gligar isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Gliscor to unlock its full potential. At 430 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • In Legends: Arceus, watch for Cloyster (Ice) and Starmie (Water) when using Gligar. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Cloyster is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Hyper Cutter prevents Attack from being lowered by other Pokémon. That's the one you want on Gligar. Immunity is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Sand Veil works too if your team needs something different.

  • In Legends: Arceus, Gligar fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 75 Attack. Base 85 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Legends: Arceus, Gligar does the job early-game if you need a Ground/Flying type on your team. Evolve it into Gliscor before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.

Game Availability

Gligar has been available in 17 games since Gold & Silver, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
