Frogadier Guide

  • Frogadier isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Greninja to unlock its full potential. At 405 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Raikou (Electric) and Breloom (Grass) when using Frogadier. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Run Protean on Frogadier. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Frogadier also gets Torrent, but they don't compare.

  • Frogadier's hidden ability is Protean. Changes the bearer's type to match each move it uses. Better than the standard options for competitive play.

  • Frogadier fills the hazard setter role. It's a physical attacker with base 63 Attack. Base 97 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's fragile, can't afford to take many hits.

Game Availability

Introduced in X & Y, Frogadier has appeared in 6 games across 5 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
