Is Hoothoot Good in FireRed & LeafGreen Playthrough?

Kanto gets Hoothoot after the National Dex. AbilityInsomnia blocks sleep, same utility as Drowzee's line. Normal/Flying arriving postgame can't compete with the Pidgeot or Fearow you've had since the early routes.

Hoothoot cannot be caught in this game. It must be traded in from a compatible game where it appears in the wild. On GBA, cross-region trading unlocks post-game after Celio's Sevii Islands Ruby & Sapphire quest. The Switch re-release supports only one-way transfers out to Pokemon HOME.

How to Get Hoothoot in FireRed & LeafGreen

Hoothoot doesn't show up in FireRed or LeafGreen wild grass. Getting the owl into Kanto means trading one from a Gen 3 game. Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald all have it on normal routes.

Hoothoot Weakness

Hoothoot's Normal/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Ice, and Rock. It shrugs off Ground and Ghost-type attacks completely. Hoothoot's special bulk (base 56 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

It has a perfect sense of time. Whatever happens, it keeps rhythm by precisely tilting its head in time.

It always stands on one foot. It changes feet so fast, the movement can rarely be seen.

Hoothoot FireRed & LeafGreen Guide

  • Hoothoot isn't catchable in FireRed & LeafGreen. Catch one in Emerald, then trade it to FireRed & LeafGreen.
