How to Get Groudon in Platinum

Groudon is the flip side of Kyogre, a cover legendary you can only catch in its home Hoenn game. Bring it forward through Pal Park, since the land titan has zero presence in Sinnoh.

How to Get Shiny Groudon in Platinum

Groudon is missing from Platinum, so obtain a shiny one in HeartGold or SoulSilver and trade it across. See every game where Shiny Groudon can be hunted

Groudon Weakness

Groudon's Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, and Ice. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. Groudon's physical bulk (base 140 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Moves List

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Groudon won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 12 types means it always has an effective option. Earthquake and Earth Power anchor the STAB core.

Pokemon Platinum

Groudon Platinum Guide

  • Groudon isn't catchable in Platinum. Find it in SoulSilver, then trade it to Platinum.

  • In Platinum, use Groudon as a wallbreaker. Physical side carries the damage. Speed is middling, Earthquake is the primary attack.

  • For Platinum, build your team around Dialga, Giratina Origin, and Mewtwo. These have the highest co-usage rates with Groudon in competitive formats. They cover each other's weaknesses.

  • For Platinum, run Adamant on Groudon. +Attack is what matters, and the -Sp. Atk cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the wallbreaker role.

Game Availability

Since Ruby & Sapphire, Groudon has appeared in 16 games. Legendary Pokemon like Groudon are usually found through story events or special post-game areas rather than random encounters.
