Ghost with enormous defenses. Trade Dusclops holding Reaper Cloth for Dusknoir, a new Gen 4 evolution. If imported, Dusknoir tanks hits better than any other Ghost available. The offensive output is low, but nothing takes Dusknoir down fast.

How to Get Dusclops in Diamond & Pearl
Dusclops chains common off the Poke Radar on the same route as Duskull, but much higher at level 52 up. You can chain the evolved form directly rather than raising a Duskull through the levels.
Wild Dusclops may be holding when caught:

Catch Duskull at any of the 1 location below, then level it up to 37 — it evolves into Dusclops.

How to Get Shiny Dusclops in Diamond & Pearl
Dusclops drifts that same Route 224 grass, where a maintained PokeRadar chain reaches its 1 in 200 shiny. Compare Shiny Dusclops odds across every game
Diamond & Pearl Shiny Dusclops Calculator
3 MethodsThe best route is PokeRadar Chain at full boosts, about 1 in 200 on each try. Tune it below.
PokeRadar Chain: Chain shaking-grass patches without breaking the combo. The rate peaks at a chain of 40.
Masuda Method: Breed with a parent from a different-language game. Works on any breedable line.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 22-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 58-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 139-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 460-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Planning a longer hunt? Set up Dusclops in the Diamond & Pearl Shiny Odds Calculator to compare every method side by side.
Dusclops Weakness
Dusclops is weak to Ghost and Dark. On the flip side, it's immune to Normal and Fighting-type moves entirely. Dusclops's overall bulk (40/130/130) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Normal, Fighting |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

DP Dusclops Best Moveset
130 in both Defense and Sp. Def are impressive, but 40 HP means the effective bulk isn't as high as it looks. Dusknoir exists now with better HP and Attack. The moveset runs defensive Ghost support but should evolve for the upgrade.
