Is Parasect Good in Platinum Playthrough?
Evolves from Paras at level 24. Bug/Grass carries a 4x Fire weakness that Flint's full-Fire E4 punishes hard. AbilityEffect Spore occasionally inflicts status on contact, but Parasect takes hits before it can act.

How to Get Shiny Parasect in Platinum
Parasect never appears wild, so breed a Paras with a foreign Ditto and hatch eggs, then evolve it. Compare Shiny Parasect odds across every game

2 MethodsThe best route is Masuda Method, about 1 in 1,639 on each try.
Masuda Method: Breed with a parent from a different-language game. Works on any breedable line.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 173-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 472-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 1,136-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 3,773-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Curious how fast a hunt could go? Work out your Platinum shiny odds for Parasect.
Parasect Weakness
Parasect's Bug/Grass typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Flying, Ice, Poison, Bug, and Rock. Fire and Flying hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The Bug/Grass typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Dry Skin grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fire, Flying |
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Poison, Bug, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Fighting |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Ground |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

Parasect Evolutions
Parasect is what Paras becomes. Breed it for Paras eggs (average hatch time). A decent partner pool for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs take an average time to hatch. The evolution from Paras pushed Parasect to 405 total stats. HP saw the largest single gain at +25. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Parasect to get Paras eggs easily using 48 partners from the Bug and Grass egg groups. Notable egg moves include Bug Bite, Counter, Cross Poison and 8 more.
Pt Parasect Best Moveset
After the 100% accurate MoveSpore puts the target to sleep, Parasect needs to capitalize fast because 30 Speed and a 4x Fire weakness limit how many turns the moveset gets. 95 Attack powers Grass and Bug physical hits, but one Fire move ends everything.

Parasect Platinum Guide
For Platinum, it depends on your team. Parasect rates C-Tier. Not a powerhouse, but the Bug/Grass coverage might be exactly what you're missing.
In Platinum, use Parasect as a trick room. Physical side carries the damage. It's slow, so Trick Room or priority moves are key.
For Platinum, run Careful on Parasect. +Sp. Def is what matters, and the -Sp. Atk cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the trick room role.
For Platinum, build your team around Forretress, Yanmega, and Heracross. These have the highest co-usage rates with Parasect in competitive formats. They cover each other's weaknesses.
