Varus Counters Classic 26.22

Cross alone. Chain of Corruption immobilizes the first champion it touches and then spreads to uninfected champions nearby, so a partner at your shoulder turns one immobilize into two. Overdrive moves you faster than a support walking beside you, which is reason enough to arrive by yourself.

Desecrated ground from Hail of Arrows slows movement speed and cuts healing and regeneration for anyone standing in it, and that patch does not follow you once it is down. Overdrive lasts eight seconds, and you decide whether those seconds go through the patch or around its edge.

Detonating Blight takes an ability, and Static Field stops abilities from starting for half a second around Blitzcrank. Press it and the passive bolts go dark until the ultimate returns. Living Vengeance runs the other way: any kill or assist gives Varus temporary attack speed, and a champion counts for more than a minion.

Blight arrives on basic attacks, and Spell Shield blocks the next incoming ability, so the barrier has no say in what his swings put on you. Hold it for Chain of Corruption. Early on, the wait between barriers runs past twenty seconds, and maxing Spell Shield cuts it by more than half.

Minions in the line thin the blade before it ever reaches Varus. Boomerang Blade takes twenty percent off at each body it passes, and it never drops below forty percent of the first hit. Damage lands on the throw and again on the return, so a clean line catches him twice.

Grouping up cuts both ways here. Allies packed in around Sivir pick up half of her movement and attack speed for the whole fifteen seconds. Chain of Corruption reads a tight group as a chain: one champion immobilized, then the corruption reaching uninfected champions standing beside them. Take the speed anyway.
