Galio Counters Classic 26.22
Feeding damage into a Bulwark target also heals Galio, so switch to someone he has not shielded. Be standing outside Idol of Durand when it goes up as well, because everyone the taunt catches is storing energy for the burst that follows.
The play The draft off Righteous Gust runs one direction, and his team is already moving down it.

How to Counter Galio in LoL Classic
Counter guide
Idol of Durand puts Galio inside a statue shell and pulls whoever stands close into hitting it. Each of the three below has something for that moment. Janna gets her tilt from shoving Galio out of position. Pantheon holds an edge worth respecting, dropping in from far off, and other names share that grade beyond the three written up here. Nasus tilts it late, with a sandstorm that reaches further than his ordinary swing.
Playing Janna into Galio
A whirlwind you charge before throwing it, a shield that pays attack damage, and winds that push Galio away.

Three seconds of charge is what a full
Howling Gale asks, and the mana bill climbs with every rank you put in it. The longer it charges, the more ground it crosses and the higher it lifts. Pick the body you want thrown before you start charging, because a sidestep from Galio wastes it.
Galio gets thrown clear by
Monsoon before
Idol of Durand goes up. It does that to every enemy around Janna, and allies who stay in it are healed for a few seconds. Time it late and you are already swinging at him. Pushed out, he has fewer bodies near enough to taunt.
Movement speed sits in both kits here.
Tailwind hands every allied champion a little of it, no cast needed.
Zephyr's passive adds more and lets you walk through units, but its active turns both off until it returns.
Righteous Gust leaves a draft that speeds Galio's allies. The speed is not yours alone.
Playing Pantheon into Galio
A block that arms itself off your own casts, and an ultimate aimed from far off.

Grand Skyfall costs a hundred mana at every rank, then holds you in the air a few seconds before you land on a spot picked from far outside the fight. That range means the cast starts nowhere near
Idol of Durand, and everything under the landing is slowed for a second.
You reach Galio with
Aegis of Zeonia, and it lands you on top of him, which is the last place to be while Idol of Durand is up.
Aegis Protection refreshes the moment that leap connects, so you decide when the block comes back. That leap is ready sooner at every rank.
Pantheon can trade from outside melee cheaply.
Heartseeker Strike hits harder than
Spear Shot, three strikes to the area in front of you. It also brings you in closer than Spear Shot does. Galio is a tank, so this is a long trade and not a burst.
Playing Nasus into Galio
Armor comes off whatever ground he stands on, and Siphoning Strike needs a kill, not a trade.

Spirit Fire gets more expensive every time you rank it, and it returns on the same twelve seconds whichever rank that is. The flame sits on the ground for five seconds, and every enemy standing in it loses armor.
Bulwark pushes armor the other way. It also heals Galio when his shielded ally takes damage.
You are casting a slow, not a stop, and
Wither takes movement speed and attack speed off Galio for five seconds. The slow you get in the fifth second is nothing like the one in the first. Waste it and the next trade happens at his full speed.
Percentage damage grows with a tank's health, up to a ceiling each second.
Fury of the Sands runs fifteen seconds, taking a share of nearby enemies' maximum health.
Siphoning Strike is the catch, since it only grows on kills, and time inside
Idol of Durand is time not killing minions.
