Is Castform Good in FireRed & LeafGreen Playthrough?
Normal with AbilityForecast changing type based on weather. Trade-only. The concept is unique but the base stats are too low. Rain, sun, and hail all change Castform's type, but the body can't capitalize on any of them.

Castform cannot be caught in this game. It must be traded in from a compatible game where it appears in the wild. On GBA, cross-region trading unlocks post-game after Celio's Sevii Islands Ruby & Sapphire quest. The Switch re-release supports only one-way transfers out to Pokemon HOME.

How to Get Castform in FireRed & LeafGreen
Weather Institute in Hoenn hands out Castform as a gift. Complete the Team Aqua or Magma event there and the NPC gives you one. FRLG trades it in from a post-event Hoenn save.
Castform cannot be caught in the wild in FireRed & LeafGreen, but you can still get it via these paths:
Pokemon HOME · Switch Rerelease
Playing the Switch version of FireRed & LeafGreen? Pokemon HOME compatibility is post-launch but deposit-only by design (FRLG → HOME). Inbound HOME transfer of Castform into FRLG is not possible — an original GBA cartridge with a Link Cable is the only inbound route.
Receive as a gift and trade from these games:
Then trade to FireRed & LeafGreen.
Also Obtainable In:
Direct cartridge trade across generations isn't possible — but the Pokemon HOME path above bridges this gap once Switch support launches.
Castform Weakness
Castform's Normal typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely. Only 1 weakness makes it relatively easy to build around defensively.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Castform Evolutions
No evolution chain to worry about here. Castform is a standalone Pokemon with a decent partner pool for breeding through two egg groups. Eggs come out average hatch time. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Castform easily with 22 breeding partners from the Indeterminate and Fairy egg groups. Pass egg moves like Future Sight, Psych Up to offspring.
FRLG Castform Best Moveset
AbilityForecast changes Castform's type and form with the weather: Water in rain, Fire in sun, Ice in hail. MoveWeather Ball doubles in power and matches the new type. The moveset concept is strong, but 70 base stats everywhere prevent competitive viability regardless of weather form.

Moves List
Without TMs, Castform's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get coverage across 8 types on top of Double-Edge and Body Slam for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.
