Thresh Counters Classic 26.22
Death Sentence decides most Thresh games, and the hook needs a clean path, so keep minions or a wall between you and him. Respect Flay shoving you back into range, and remember Dark Passage can drag a dying ally back out of reach.
The play Give up the caster minions rather than stepping inside a swing he has been winding up.

How to Counter Thresh in LoL Classic
Counter guideAll three matchups turn on
Death Sentence, and on what you are still holding once Thresh has landed the chain. Alistar runs away with it, because
Unbreakable Will clears the disables and blunts what follows. The lane clearly favors Ezreal, who plays it from a distance where most of his kit already works. Leona holds a firm edge by walking into the catch on purpose.
Playing Alistar into Thresh
Thresh can chain himself to you, and that drops him inside Pulverize with the knockup waiting.
| Counter strengthStrong | TakeChamp select Exhaust | BuyThe answers![]() ![]() |
Alistar runs away with this one, and the second press of
Death Sentence is why. Thresh rides his own chain onto the target, which parks him inside
Pulverize, where the knockup runs one and a half seconds at every rank.
Trample lights up under you on any cast, damaging whatever stands close.
Trade while
Triumphant Roar is up. It restores you, hands friendly units nearby half of that, and comes back every twelve seconds at any rank, two seconds sooner for each enemy that drops close. Those deaths do not feed
Damnation. Thresh harvests souls from your dead near him, and the armor and ability power stay.
Unbreakable Will takes every Disabling effect off you the instant you press it, then cuts incoming physical and magical damage by seventy percent at rank three across seven seconds. It clears what is already on you, not what arrives next. Rank three still leaves eighty seconds between presses, the longest wait anywhere in this kit.
Playing Ezreal into Thresh
Distance is doing the work here, and a landed Mystic Shot pulls every other cooldown down with it.
| Counter strengthGood | TakeChamp select Barrier | BuyThe answers![]() ![]() |
Ezreal's whole kit runs on connecting.
Rising Spell Force adds a tenth of your attack speed per hit for five seconds and stacks five times, and a
Mystic Shot that lands takes a second off every cooldown you hold. Rank five puts the bolt back in four seconds. Hit nothing and neither reward arrives.
Arcane Shift puts distance back, but pressing
Death Sentence a second time rides Thresh to you, and the blink's homing bolt hits the nearest enemy unit rather than one you pick. Wait for that second press before you blink: nine seconds at rank five, seventeen at rank one, ninety mana either way.
Aim
Essence Flux so the line clips your partner. Enemy champions it hits lose a quarter of their attack speed at rank five, while allied champions in it restore health and gain that same speed, five seconds either way. None of that helps once
Flay has swept you somewhere you did not choose to stand.
Playing Leona into Thresh
Thresh drags you toward him, which is exactly the ground Shield of Daybreak and Eclipse need.
| Counter strengthGood | TakeChamp select Exhaust | BuyThe answers![]() ![]() |
Let the chain land.
Death Sentence pulls its target toward Thresh, which is where Leona already wanted to stand.
Shield of Daybreak rides your next basic attack, so you have to be swinging.
Sunlight sits on whatever your spells touch for three seconds and a half. Land on him and allied champions collect that mark.
Zenith Blade dashes Leona onto the final champion in its path and drops a brief Root there, holding him in place. Shield of Daybreak is the press that stops him acting instead, and its Stun holds for a second and a quarter. Seven seconds between Shield of Daybreak presses at rank five.
Eclipse makes the trade survivable. It hands you seventy Armor and Magic Resist at rank five, three seconds, then three more if an enemy is close when it ends.
Solar Flare slows enemies under the beam and stuns anyone in its center. Neither answers
The Box. Its walls slow you, and breaking one damages you.
