Pokémon Sun & Moon Pokédex
Hawaii-inspired Alola threw out the gym formula. Island Trials and Totem Pokemon test your team in ways gyms never did. Alolan forms gave familiar Gen 1 species completely new identities. And Z-Moves hand every Pokemon on your team a once-per-battle nuke.
Without trading, one save reaches 291 here, against a list that runs 302 deep. The bar Alola sets for a reward sits between those two numbers. Catch 300 and the game director in Heahea City hands over a Shiny Charm. He's the only reason the number 300 means anything at all.
Switching this on drops the grid to 291, and that lands nine short of the 300 the Shiny Charm asks for. There's no version of this dex where somebody who never trades collects that charm.

302 Alola Pokemon on Sun and Moon's List
Every number on this list is an Alola number. These games don't issue a National one, so the position a Pokemon holds here is the only position it's got. Wild encounters cover 200 of the 302, and 70 more depend on raising something you caught earlier.

Alola Pokedex in Sun & Moon
“This wary Pokémon uses photosynthesis to store up energy during the day, while becoming active at night.”Sun & Moon dex entry

“It controls its water balloons with song. The melody is learned from others of its kind and is passed down from one generation to the next.”Sun & Moon dex entry
“It can peck at a rate of 16 times a second to drill holes in trees. It uses the holes for food storage and for nesting.”Sun & Moon dex entry
