Talonflame's built around mixed offense. Speed leads the charge, Sp. Def pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 3 Speed EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It has top-notch flying capabilities. It flies around easily, even while carrying prey that weighs more than 220 lbs.
When it gets excited, it vents sparks from the gaps between its feathers. These unburnable feathers are used as a fireproof material.
Talonflame's Fire/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Rock, Water, and Electric. Rock hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Ground-type attacks completely. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.

Talonflame is the final form in a three-stage chain from Fletchling through Fletchinder. Breeding this form produces Fletchling eggs (quick to hatch). Evolving from Fletchling gave Talonflame the biggest boost in Speed (+64), bringing the total to 499 stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Jolly nature gives Talonflame the fast physical lean it needs to trade hits effectively. Heavy-Duty Boots adds hazard immunity on every switch-in, flexible EVs split the difference, and utility options punishes anything trying to wall it. Roost keeps it topped off between trades.

Step 3Talonflame ✓
Talonflame has a 499 base stat total and ranks as A-Tier: a strong competitive pick. It works best as a pivot. Base 126 Speed is where it shines.
Watch for Rhyperior (Rock), Milotic (Water), and Jolteon (Electric) when using Talonflame. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rhyperior is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Talonflame's base 126 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
Flame Body has a 30% chance of burning attacking Pokémon on contact. That's the one you want on Talonflame. Gale Wings is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Talonflame fills the pivot role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 81 Attack). Base 126 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Talonflame has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Rock, Water, and Electric-type attackers hit hardest.
Introduced in X & Y, Talonflame has appeared in 7 games across 5 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
