Talonflame's Fire/Flying typing gives it an immunity to Ground. Only 3 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. Known as the Scorching Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.

Talonflame's built around mixed offense. Speed leads the charge, Sp. Def pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 3 Speed EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

In the fever of an exciting battle, it showers embers from the gaps between its feathers and takes to the air.

X

When attacking prey, it can reach speeds of up to 310 mph. It finishes its prey off with a colossal kick.

Talonflame Weakness

Excellent

Talonflame's Fire/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Rock, Water, and Electric moves. Rock hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Ground-type attacks completely. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.

Galewings isn't flashy, but it matters. Combined with Life Orb for extra damage on every hit for a health trade and max Attack and Speed EVs, Talonflame fills the attacker slot reliably. Hasty nature finishes the spread.

Talonflame doesn't appear wild. Catch Fletchling instead, it shows up at solid rates. Evolve it at level 35 to get Talonflame. The 3-stage chain is mapped in the step cards below.

How to Obtain Talonflame in X & Y

Fletchling is your first catch on the way to Talonflame. You'll find walking encounters from Lv. 2-5 across 6 total spots in the chain.

  3. Talonflame
    Step 3Talonflame
  • Talonflame has a 499 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier — a solid choice for the right team. It works best as a support. Base 126 Speed is where it shines.

  • Watch for Rhyperior (Rock), Milotic (Water), and Jolteon (Electric) when using Talonflame. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rhyperior is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Talonflame's base 126 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.

  • Fletchinder evolves into Talonflame at level 35. Talonflame is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Fletchling. At 499 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Flame Body has a 30% chance of burning attacking Pokémon on contact — that's the one you want on Talonflame. Gale Wings is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Talonflame fills the support role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 81 Attack). Base 126 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Talonflame appears in 7 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Introduced in X & Y, Talonflame has appeared in 7 games across 4 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
