Mid-stage Pokemon like Fletchling rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Talonflame, which is where the real potential kicks in. Introduced in Gen 6. Ground and Ghost moves can't touch it, and only 3 types hit it super-effectively.

An unusually even spread gives Fletchling flexibility. Speed barely edges ahead. But Sp. Def isn't far off. Easy to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 1 Speed EV.

Without breeding, Fletchling misses out on Defog and Flame Charge. That's 3 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Fly and Facade, with Fire and Steel coverage and more rounding things out.

  • Fletchling is meant to evolve into Fletchinder. At 278 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Watch for Raikou (Electric), Walrein (Ice), and Rhyperior (Rock) when using Fletchling. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.

  • Fletchling evolves into Fletchinder at level 17. Fletchling is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Big Pecks protects against Defense drops — that's the one you want on Fletchling. Gale Wings is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • At base 62 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Fletchling is leaning toward the physical side (base 50 Attack). Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Fletchling appears in 7 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Fletchling joined the series in X & Y and has been available in 7 titles so far. With 4 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
