Mid-stage Pokemon like Magnemite rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Magnezone, which is where the real potential kicks in. Been around since Gen 1. Poison moves can't touch it, and only 3 types hit it super-effectively.

Magnemite's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, HP trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 1 Sp. Atk EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

The electromagnetic waves emitted by the units at the sides of its head expel antigravity, which allows it to float.

Magnemite Weakness

Excellent

Ground, Fire, and Fighting-type moves hit Magnemite for super-effective damage. Ground hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. 11 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.

Magnemite is the start of a three-stage chain. It evolves into Magneton first, then eventually reaches Magnezone. For breeding, average hatch time with plenty of partners via one egg group. The evolved forms gain up to 210 total stats over Magnemite.

You commit to a move every time Magnemite comes in. Choice Scarf gives speed patching through item lock, and Magnetpull adds to that. A spread EV build EVs make sure the locked move actually hurts. The remaining moves covers the rest.

Recommended Teammates

Without TMs, Magnemite's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal coverage on top of Steel Beam and Zap Cannon for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Tutor Moves

Magnemite can't learn any Tutor moves

Magnemite is available from mid-game routes onward at decent spawn rates. 8 encounter spots give you plenty of options. Grab one early and it'll be ready to evolve or train by mid-game.

Best Locations

Magnemite's encounter pool splits between Scarlet and Violet. You've got 8 walking spots at Lv. 16-34 total, but your version determines which ones actually show up.

  • Magnemite isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Magneton to unlock its full potential. At 325 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Rhydon (Ground), Arcanine (Fire), and Machamp (Fighting) when using Magnemite. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rhydon is the most dangerous since Ground moves deal 4x damage.

  • Magnemite evolves into Magneton at level 30. Magnemite is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Magnet Pull prevents steel opponents from fleeing or switching out — that's the one you want on Magnemite. Analytic is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Sturdy works too if your team needs something different.

  • Magnemite fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Magnemite appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Magnemite has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 21 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
