Mid-stage Pokemon like Magnemite rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Magnezone, which is where the real potential kicks in. Been around since Gen 1. Poison moves can't touch it, and only 3 types hit it super-effectively.

Magnemite's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, HP trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 1 Sp. Atk EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

It’s frequently the cause of power outages, which is why some power plants send out electrical signals that it can’t stand.

Ultra Sun

Perhaps because electrical lines are often buried these days, the number of Magnemite attacks on power plants has increased.

Magnemite Weakness

Excellent

Ground, Fire, and Fighting-type moves hit Magnemite for super-effective damage. Ground hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. 11 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.

Magnemite develops a solid moveset just through leveling. Zap Cannon and Explosion show up naturally, and the progression handles both STAB and utility without leaning on TMs for the core attacks.

  • Magnemite isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Magneton to unlock its full potential. At 325 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Rhydon (Ground), Arcanine (Fire), and Machamp (Fighting) when using Magnemite. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rhydon is the most dangerous since Ground moves deal 4x damage.

  • Magnemite evolves into Magneton at level 30. Magnemite is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Magnet Pull prevents steel opponents from fleeing or switching out — that's the one you want on Magnemite. Analytic is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Sturdy works too if your team needs something different.

  • Magnemite fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Magnemite appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Magnemite has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 21 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
