Mid-stage Pokemon like Magnemite rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Magnezone, which is where the real potential kicks in. Been around since Gen 1. Poison moves can't touch it, and only 3 types hit it super-effectively.
Magnemite's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, HP trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 1 Sp. Atk EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It is attracted by electromagnetic waves. It may approach trainers if they are using their POKéGEAR.
The units at the sides of its body generate antigravity energy to keep it aloft in the air.
Magnemite Weakness
ExcellentGround, Fire, and Fighting-type moves hit Magnemite for super-effective damage. Ground hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. 12 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
Magnemite is the start of a three-stage chain. It evolves into Magneton first, then eventually reaches Magnezone. For breeding, average hatch time with a small partner pool via one egg group. The evolved forms gain up to 210 total stats over Magnemite.
How to Evolve
Breed Magnemite (with patience) with 12 breeding partners from the Mineral egg group.

Without TMs, Magnemite's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal and Rock coverage on top of Zap Cannon and Thunder for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Magnemite isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Magneton to unlock its full potential. At 325 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Magnemite evolves into Magneton at level 30. Magnemite is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Magnemite fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Magnemite appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
Magnemite has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 21 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
